Windows Live messenger configuration on CloudFlare

Posted on 12.26.2013

This fix applies to domain settings on Windows Live over CloudFlare.

When you follow the messenger configuration on windows live domain setup, i’m sure you’ll end up with “Invalid service value.”.

So, be aware and have this simple, quick fixed!

  • DNS record type: SRV
  • Service: _sipfederationtls instead of _sipfederationtls._tcp.domain.tld
  • Protocol: _tcp
  • Domain Name: domain.tld
  • Priority: 10 (or High priority)
  • Weight: 2
  • Port: 5061
  • Target: federation.messenger.msn.com

Add domain

After successfully adding a domain alias to your OpenShift application, go to your domain manager. I am using CloudFlare as my domain manager. So, here how to do it.
Navigate to the following tabs:

  • Websites
  • Choose a domain to setup Page Rules
  • Enter URL patter (eg. mvcejas.com)
  • Forwarding to (eg. http://www.mvcejas.com)
  • Choose forwarding ON (I choose to permanent redirect)
  • And click Add Rule

On your domain, make sure your DNS Settings is setup well.
